I have a strange situation going on with a purchase I think I might be getting scammed, but I am not completely sure. I figure I come here and see what people think.
I sold a brass plant pot back in July to a buyer in California. The item is bought for $49.99 + $25.00 shipping. She messages me about an hour later and says I also want to buy your chest holder which is $29.99 + $18.00 shipping can I get a shipping discount?
I told her these things were both very different shape and both very fragile and one would need a long tall box and the other would need a wide box, but I could lower the shipping from $43.00 to $40.00 if that helps (each item would cost roughly $20-$22 to ship). She said that if i threw in this red glass for $7.49 with free shipping she would agree to that price. So I said ok. The total wound up being $130.47 somehow she kept negotiating prices and it came to that. So she tries to pay me via paypal. She says she can't pay me cause her paypal is a UK account even though she lives in the US. She tells me she is going to send a check. Well ok.
She sends the check I get it and I go to pack the things and the planter is supposed to be in my uncles garage. I ask him for it and just my luck he didn't listen to me the week before when I told him please make sure this planter sits in your garage and don't move it. My aunt says my cousin sold it at a tag sale. My uncle says that didn't happen. My cousin says he never sold it either. Noone can find the thing anywhere. I tell the buyer this and she tells me keep looking. For about 5 days she keeps messaging me asking if I found it and the answer was the same every time. No I haven't do you want to carry on with the other two items? She says yes but only if you sell them to me for $55.48 and refund me $74.99. I said ok. I sent three packages 1 chest holder via fed ex, 1 glass via USPS, 1 check for $74.99 via USPS with a tracking number (she refused to give me her paypal email saying ebay doesn't allow emails which is true but I asked the question is the same as your ebay email and she didn't respond).
The chest holder gets there fine, the glass gets there fine. She says thanks for the two items if you ever find the plant holder let me know. I said if I do I will give you free shipping on it for the inconvenience of not finding it. She said that was fair but she was going to hold off leaving feedback until the check came in. I said how did it not come in the other packages did. She said well it didn't. She immediately opens a case against me after this.

It says out for delivery on the 12th and then "Delivery Status not updated" I have no idea what that means why it wouldn't get delivered I have no idea.
I asked her if she checked with her mailman and post office.
She doesn't answer then I get a message saying she closed the case.
She waits two weeks to answer me and says I have been asking for 2 weeks they don't have it they said you can call and ask for a recall of the package and to just send the money to paypal. I said I can't send the money to paypal because I don't have your paypal email and she says yes you do you have the paypal email from when I paid you with paypal. I said you never paid me with paypal you sent a check. I said well is it the same as your ebay email ? No response and its been a week since I asked that question.
So I call USPS and the person on the phone says there already is a case opened for this tracking number and the name of the person is the same as the buyer, but the address town and zip code are all different. I said well she is in Reseda, CA and they said no our address is Newbury Park. Different address zip code everything different but the name. So i got her phone number from ebay I called her and no answer it goes straight to voicemail and says its full. Sent a text message no answer. No answer on ebay messages.
I am seeing a lot of red flags here. The fact she won't give me her paypal email, the fact we had to checks only, the fact she says to refund her with paypal when we know it doesn't work nor do I have her paypal email. Also the different address, town and zip code concern me. The fact it says "Delivery status not updated" Makes me wonder if the postman just forgot to scan it and if she is holding onto that check and is just going to cash it the second I send a paypal refund. I'm not sure what to do here I guess send messages/phone calls till I get an answer, but even If i do get paypal to work should i be concerned about her cashing the check she supposedly doesn't have? A cancelled check fee is like $35 which is almost half the amount.
Let me know your thoughts am I being scammed or am I worrying too much? Thanks.
